2007 RIOJA VINTAGE CONSIDERED AS “VERY GOOD”

The 2007 Rioja vintage has been considered as "Very Good" by the Control Board after the arduous qualification process by means of analysis and tasting sessions the 4093 samples out of the 272.8 million litres of wine have passed.

This rating confirms the expectations due to the great quality of the harvested grapes in 2007, which allowed to predict fantastic wines, specially good for ageing in barrel, according to the control board. The good weather conditions throughout the ripening of the grapes and the harvest, as well as the professionality of Riojan winemakers were key aspects to achieve such a good result.

The total of harvested grape in the 60,774 hectares in 2007 of the Rioja DO was 412.72 million Kg. (375.09 million kg. Of red grapes and 37.63 of white one), an inferior production in a 2.2% if compared to that of the previous year, despite having 400 hectares more. Finally, 273.7 million litres of wine were protected by the designation of origin, remaining 7 million as qualitative stock, constituted for the first time this year according to the agreement of the Control Board so as to establish a way to ease the balanced development of the Designation.
